Yema is a sweet concoction made with milk and egg yolks. Yema are custard candies we inherited from our Spanish colonizers of more than 300 years.  The word “yema” actually means “yolk” in Spanish.   During the Spanish occupation millions of egg whites and egg shells were used to build churches in the country. The US Food and Drugs Administration said the Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter (sku 97111) was recalled by Trader Joe’s “because of potential contamination with Salmonella.”, as warrned by FDA. The recalled Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter comes in a 16 ounce, plastic jar with an expiration date stamped below the lid, the FDA further said, adding that all code dates up to and including July 26, 2013 are included in the recall. “Production and distribution of the item has been suspended while the FDA and the Valencia Peanut Butter supplier continue their investigations,” the notice said. Meanwhile, Mexico-based company Sunland Inc., which reportedly manufactures and packages the Trader Joe’s product, likewise recalled 76 types of peanut butter and almond butter. A Sunland spokeswoman explained they’re doing the recall as the peanut and almond butters were manufactured with the same equipment as the Trader Joe’s product.

From September 27 to 30, Purple Yam will open its kitchen in Brooklyn’s Ditmas Park for “Culinary Dreams: Filipino-American Chefs Forum and Dinner Party,” a hybrid event where open dialogue and scrumptious dinner will have an experimental performance.
